Some UN Agencies have a documentation center which is functional and accessible to the public :


World Bank Office in Mali


General Collection
The Agency has more than 1000 books and publications classified according to the classification system of World Bank.  

Projects / Programs collections
This collection contains many documents dealing with projects and programs implemented by the Agency since the beginning of its assistance in Mali such as feasibility studies, documents of approval, technical reports. The studies, documents of approval, technical reports. The subjects covered are varied.

Newspapers and magazines
The center subscribes to many local and international newspapers and magazines drafted in French and English.  They can be consulted on the spot.

CD–ROM
Many CD-ROMs are accessible to users such as: Annual Report, World Bank Africa Database, World Development Indicators, World Development Sources, Global Development Finance, The World Development Report (not accessible for the time being).  

Videos
The center does not have any VCR.  

Services offered to the public
Services offered to the public are : 

  • A full-time documentalist; 

  • A computer to surf on the Internet; 

  • Publications on sale; 

  • A room for consultation on the spot.

THE WHO OFFICE IN MALI


General Collection
The documentation center of the WHO representation office in Mali has more than 4000 books and publications at its disposal. They are filed in shelves and by specific fields (transmissible diseases, chronic and parasitic diseases, etc)  

Projects / Programs Collection
The Collection contains magazines, technical report, implementation of National Days (immunization, tobacco, heart ,etc).  

Newspapers and magazines
The center subscribes to more than 10 local newspapers and magazines drafted in French and which can be consulted on the spot .

CD-ROM  
Multimedia CD Roms on some diseases like AIDS are available.

Videos
The center has a collection  of video tapes at its disposal. The topics covered are varied: malaria, immunization, HIV/AIDS, etc.

Services offered to the pulic
The services offered  to the public are : 

  • A full time documentalist; 

  • A room for consultations on the spot; 

  • The use of these facilities is for free

  • Possibility to have access to the WHO internet web site.

Accessibility to the center
The users can get access to the center according to the following hours: Monday to Thursday from 8:00 to 16:30; Friday from 8:00 to 12:00.

  THE UNESCO OFFICE IN MALI  


General Collection
The documentation center contains more than 300 titles of various publications ( books, news bulletins, handouts, collections, etc). The content of these publications is related to the mandate of the Agency, namely the promotion  of education, science, culture and communication/information.

  THE UNDP OFFICE IN MALI


General Collection
UNDP has over 3,200 books and publications which are classified according to the UNBIS classification system. The collection puts emphasis on UNDP, the UN agencies and their activities, documents related to Mali such as books on the socio-economic situation, surveys on poverty, human development, environment, social development education, health.

Projects/Programs collection
UNDP has developed an Intranet site on which one can find information related projects. It includes in this regard, the following project documents : project papers, progress reports, tripartite reports, final reports.

Newspapers and Magazines
The Center subscribes to over 10 journals and magazines and newsletters in French and English. They can be consulted on the spot.

CD Rom
Several CD ROMS are accessible to users such as : RVDH 1999 and 2000; ECA, The Volunteers, the UN Human Development Report 1999, Build the African Economic Community-ECA; An archive of experience : a knowledge base for action-UNFPA; The WHO reproductive health library – WHO; Sahel point doc: anthology of development in the Sahel – UNESCO; Development of Agricultural productions in Africa- RADHORT/FAO- United Nations Ward. Expo 2000, Hanover; Populations in distress-UNFPA; International Day of Volunteers 2001; Development Cooperation Vietnam; Special Inititiative of the United Nations on Africa.

Video
The Center has a video collection which can be viewed on the spot. The topics addressed include projects and programs.

The services provided to the audience include:

  • Publications offered free of charge;

  • Photocopy services.

  • From Monday to Thursday  from 7:30 AM to 5 PM

  • On Fridays from 8:00 to 12:00

THE FAO OFFICE IN MALI


General Collection
The agency has about 3 000 books and publications (as documentation funds) which are classified according to the FAO classification norms (per category of topics). The collection puts the emphasis on FAO and its  activities, on documents related to Mali such as books on the socio-economic situation, studies on the rural development, food security and environment. The collection comprises also various relevant reports on the station and global trends in the various domains of nutrition, food, forest, fisheries, environment and the rural development in general.

Projects/Programs collection
This collection comprises 200 documents dealing with the projects and programmes implemented (in Mali mainly) by FAO since 1965 such as feasibility studies, documents of approval, technical reports. The topics dealt with are varied.

Newspapers and Magazines
The center subscribes to more than 43 local and international newspapers and magazines in French and in English. They can be consulted on the spot.

CD-Rom
Many CD-ROM are accessible to users. Among them, we can cite: the one including anything necessary for the access and surfing in the FAO web-pages on Internet; the one providing information on the word Agriculture and Information center (WAICENT) of the FAO. This center gives access – under various forms (internet, diskettes and CD-ROM), to an amount of data and analyses of FAO on agriculture, forest, fisheries and rural development; the one on the Nutritional Overviews per country up to the year 2001 ; the one on the 1996 world summit on food; the one on the state of phyto-genetic resources for food and agriculture in the world ; the one on the code of conduct for a relevant fishery, etc.

The Center has a collection of video cassettes that can be viewed on the spot. The topics tackled are about the projects and programmes of FAO in Mali.

The services offered to the public are :

  • A full-time assistante to the programme ;

  • A processed database ;

  • A computer to navigate on Internet ;

  • Publications for sale on order at the head office ;

  • An on site consultation room ;

Materials offered freely such as leaflets on food security, agriculture, natural resources, forests, fishery, cattle-raising, special programmes, the telefood campaign, world food day, communication for development, statistical data, etc.
